Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) carrying the ENERGY STAR® label use up to 75 percent less electricity and last up to 10 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.
You can drop-off your used compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) at JCPB. We only accept used CFLs and do NOT serve as a collection point for other recyclables, which include other types of lighting (i.e. incandescent or fluorescent lamps other than “CFLs”).
CFLs are the most energy efficient and cost effective lighting choice for indoor lighting. CFLs use about one-third as much energy as an incandescent bulb and provides the same amount of light output. Since CFLs are the new “hot topic” for energy savings, sales have soared. With the increase in sales, concern has been expressed as to the proper disposal of CFLs since CFLs contain mercury. Although CFLs contain small amounts of mercury, proper disposal is still necessary when the bulbs burn out. CFLs can be recycled.
As an electric utility, JCPB is adamant about promoting energy efficiency and thus recommend the use of CFLs for energy savings. Furthermore, becoming a drop-off location for used CFLs provides added convenience for our customers and helps promote a healthier, cleaner environment.
